Bed and Breakfast lodgings were popular in the United Kingdom for centuries and the phrase was coined in the British Isles . This form of accommodation is also popular through the centuries in Europe .

The concept was brought to the United States by the early settlers who stayed in these lodgings before setting off to new territory for settlement . The popularity of homestay lodging saw a revival during the great depression and gave travelers with limited finances an affordable lodging option. Private homes were converted into homestay lodgings to augment the income of the household . Bed and Breakfast lodgings were popular in the days of yore and still remain a popular lodging choice for a weary traveler.
